Planning a Romantic Dinner Menu for Valentine’s Day?

Don’t Forget the Best Romantic Wines, oh Valentine!

valentine heartValentine’s Day gift ideas are often hard to come by. The traditional “romantic” Valentine’s Day present ideas of flowers and chocolates can sometimes feel a bit boring. For someone special, we often want to really DO something special to show them how much we care.

Valentine’s Day Gifts for Men

romantic-valentines-dinnerDon’t dismiss the Valentine’s Day idea of a romantic dinner! They say the path to a man’s heart is through his stomach. This does not need to be scientifically proven since our grandmother’s have been heard saying it for generations! Plus it’s very logical:

  • Cooking is a caring and nurturing task
  • It takes time and thought and preparation
  • A full stomach on top of delightful taste sensations equals a very satisfactory situation.

Also, many guys are fairly simple; so a Romanic dinner for two does not mean that you have to attend a school of culinary skills first. Think of a huge lush steak, fabulous creamy potatoes, and a rich decadent dessert. Unless your man is a vegetarian, skip the veggies. Then you have already absolved him from the guilt he will use to motivate him to eat those beans. For many guys, just knowing that all he has to do to make you happy is gush over how great his meal tastes is a Valentine’s Day gift onto itself!

Keeping in the romantic theme, try adding a lovely bottle of Ramey 2006 California Claret to your Valentine’s Day menu. The name alone can inspire some sweet thoughts and Claret is a wine with a long history as well. You can read our review of the Ramey Claret here and learn about the history which then you can impress him with over those steaks cooked to simple perfection!

Valentine’s Day Gifts for Her

romantic-chocolate_strawberryIf you require some assistance in wooing that special lady off her feet, then look no further than the 2007 Chateau Ste. Michelle “Eroica” Riesling.

Eroica is perfect as a romantic Valentine’s Day Wine for more than the name alone! But that helps!

First off, call it gender biased; many women prefer a white wine to a red.

Second, this is a Riesling, so it is lovely and light, but sweet. It can easily become a dessert wine and accompany something equally romantic like chocolate covered strawberries!

And then third, well.. we can’t help shaking the thoughts that came up when we reviewed  Eroica Riesling wine:

Is Eroica a Wine for a Happy Ending Dessert? While the say the wine was named for Beethoven’s Third Symphony, it’s still very close on a play on words,  I thought and laughed to myself. I imagined a non wine drinker enjoying the sweetness until it went to her head; would the wine live up to its name after a hot date?

The wine, she is hot! The question is.. would it be a Valentine’s Day gift for her or for you?
